We start by noting the lives of David Bowie and Alan Rickman. Then we talk about what it means that the Open Gaming License from Wizards of the Coast is back, along with their new program called the Dungeon Master's Guild. Then we talk about the cool stuff we built in Minecraft. Ryan gives a glowing review to Citizen Kane (no surprise, but it's a movie that neither of us ever got around to watching). Josh talks about his upcoming Dungeon Master experience (fingers crossed).

In this episode, we are joined by our most popular guest host, Jason Kirkby!

Jason plays D&D 5th edition, Josh plays Minecraft, and Ryan plays it all. For our main topic, we talk about comic relief and comedic elements in otherwise "serious" works of art and fiction and role-playing games. And what is the role of comedy in highly comedic works? We basically analyze all comedy ever.

Josh recounts some of his experiences at GottaCon 2015. We remember Leonard Nimoy. We talk more about GottaCon, and the inspiration required to be an adventure writer. We veer off into art criticism talk. Then we get back to inspiration, and how it's applied in D&D. We talk about how a character in a story might gain an extra bit of focus, or an extra boost of effort in order to accomplish some vital task.

Your hosts open the podcast with a talk about candy weapons. Josh reports on the Roll for Initiative Event in Victoria, where he finally plays D&D 5th for the first time. More anticipation for GottaCon. And our main topic this episode is all about anger, and how it serves as a motivation when role-playing, as well as a bonus in game mechanics terms. And other ins and outs of anger.

Don't imitate: simulate! In this episode: we go on tangents about time travel, Star Trek, cultural flagships, the secret of eternal youth, and Ryan's broken video card. Join us at Roll for Initiative (link below) and GottaCon this month! Our main topic is an exploration of the front gate of the dungeon, also known as the threshhold, and all the other forms it takes.

A short discussion about the new D&D Monster Manual, the Paladin's warhorse, and teamwork and team-helping abilities in role-playing games. The Sims-ulationist! Josh played an hour of the Sims 4, and reports back in this podcast. And Josh goes to Interactivity again. Ryan plays around with Tri-Stat stats for Bender and Robo-Cop http://tristat.wikispaces.com/

Ryan discovers a monster he's been working on turns out to be an internet fetish. Sparkling mummies. What is closer to the wellspring of life? Josh says bacteria. Ryan says wolves. Ryan delves the bottom of the ocean for ideas for Cthulhoid monstrosities. If Cabin in the Woods
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1259521/ were a board game or a role-playing game, which characters/monsters are player characters?

So we have protagonists and antagonists, what about retagonists? Josh and Ryan tangentially touch on Eastern religion. We think prequels need to start using negative numbers, like Order of the Stick http://www.giantitp.com/Comics.html . Playing as monsters. Non-standard goals for players--what if the players just want their characters to get drunk and have as much fun as possible? http://www.bullypulpitgames.com/games/fiasco/ .

We discuss the latest Death of Wolverine. We recommend the Acquisitions Incorporated Dungeons & Dragons Campaign https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLZ_Pl2pApA. Ryan invents Platonic Oubliettes for Multi-Dimensional Beings, kind of like the ghost trap from Ghostbusters. Platonic Solids: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platonic_solid. And for our main topic, we discuss flaws for heroes, and flaws in real life. Josh and Ryan argue about Superman's decision to not adopt a super child. And we ask whether you would kill Hitler if you woke up in a jail cell next to him.

The Littlest Nomads

Josh and Ryan talk about all the simulations they've been running this week: Josh prepares for some in-public D&D, Ryan plays Marvel Online, Josh writes himself a sitcom, Ryan notices a coincidence with the Tagalog word for onions and Ghostbusters lore, Mutants, mixing and matching genetic mutations for awesome comic book and video game characters. And once all the tangents are out of the way, for our main topic, we discuss how a nomadic lifestyle applies to the world of Dungeons & Dragons.

In this episode, Ryan expounds on the idea of the statless curse, that ineffable essence of something just being wrong, whether it's the dwarven gold, or the too-easy dungeon maze. There just has to be a curse here somewhere, doesn't there?
